Inaugural Week of Classes

Howdy y'all - now that Carlyn's warmed up the audience, I'm taking a swing at this blogging business and hoping for the best.

Tomorrow marks the closing of our inaugural week of school at Sasin.  Thus far, classes have been swell and not that dissimilar from those at Kellogg.  Since most of the Thai students don't say much in class (its a cultural thing), and no one wants to hear professors drone on-and-on for 3.5 hours (yeah - 3.5 hour classes!), our group of exchange students have been picking up the slack and carrying the conversation in a lot of our classes.

Quick insights on classes:
* Entrepreneurship (Matt only): great professor!  I'm working with a group of 4 Thai students who are launching a low-cal, all-natural, probiotic-infused sweetener.  They've actually won some cash in a recent case competition and wanted a "western-perspective" (to which I promptly put them in touch with Carlyn who knows a heck of a lot more about that "healthy food stuff" than I do).
* Investments (Carlyn only):  Carlyn loves investments & finance and is thinking about switching from consulting to investment banking.  At least that's the impression I'm getting...I'll let her flush out the details.
* Human Resources (M&C): Comically, our HR class has only 9 students and 8 of us are exchange students!! (to which our New Jersey-based professor lamented..."why did I come all the way over here to teach a bunch of American kids?!").  Also,  our prof told us where to find good coffee on campus...so that was helpful.
* Marketing (M&C): All well and good. Our professor is French...so that's interesting.

Both of us have classes Tuesday - Friday starting at 8:30am and ending the day around 4:30pm.  That leaves us just enough time to go to the gym, take a shower, go out for dinner and get our HW done before heading to bed.

Looking forward to this weekend when we can finally see of the sites in Bangkok.  Tomorrow - the Thai students have arranged a happy hour / dinner / drinks for all of us to get together and meet each other - should be fun.  Give me some feedback on this blog post.  If you hate it...I'll never write another one again.  If you absolutely love it...maybe we'll turn this into a subscription service...jk...but not a bad business idea.
